About My Work

Paula Wilkinson is an independent silversmith and jewellery maker based in Bidford-on-Avon, Warwickshire, a stone’s throw from Stratford-upon-Avon. She personally designs and creates every piece of jewellery item in her little home studio.

Having enjoyed making things throughout her life, Paula studied Silversmithing at Warwickshire College in Leamington Spa, where she fell in love with the art of jewellery making. After discovering her passion for working with metal, particularly silver, she invested in the tools and created a home workspace to continue working on her creations.  Initially making jewellery for herself, family and friends, she eventually took the plunge to set up her business, Paula Wilkinson Jewellery.

Drawing inspiration from the natural world, antiques and the arts, Paula creates unique work, with a little bit of her soul in every piece. Sometimes her cats might even appear among her designs! Above all else, creativity is her real passion and inspiration can often come from the beauty in the materials being crafted. She loves the processes involved in hand crafting each piece of jewellery, which can be both challenging and extremely rewarding.

Life changing things happen that make you stop and consider what you’re doing with your time. 2019 was a difficult year personally, and Paula was looking forward to the new year to get back to normal. Unfortunately, 2020 didn’t pan out the way anyone could have imagined. While furloughed from her job, Paula started seriously thinking about what she would really love to be doing for a career and she knew it had to be jewellery making, and so decided the time was right to make it happen.

From the moment an idea appears in her mind’s eye, the process begins with creative problem solving, considering how the design can be constructed and what materials will be included. While a lot can go wrong at any stage in the sawing, soldering, etching, enamelling, stone setting or even while polishing, it is immensely satisfying when an imagined design becomes a completed piece of jewellery. Using only the best materials, sterling silver and good quality gemstones, each hand crafted piece has its own character and charm, that will be endlessly enjoyed.

Unique Hand-Crafted Jewellery

Paula Wilkinson Jewellery, created by hand using traditional silversmithing techniques. Designed for extraordinary people who like something a little different, maybe even a bit quirky. Unusual artisan jewellery that does not conform to the latest fashion fads, is not run-of-the-mill, but will add a unique element to your look, and reflect your own inimitable personality and style.

Materials and processes

All Paula Wilkinson Jewellery is made by hand using traditional silver smithing tools and techniques. Each piece is made individually from sterling silver. Some items also include semi-precious gemstones, copper or enamels to add colour to the design. Please see individual listings for the materials used in specific pieces.

In accordance with UK law (The Hallmarking Act 1973), if the total weight of a piece of sterling silver jewellery is below 7.78g there is no requirement for it to be hallmarked by an Assay Office. All Paula Wilkinson Jewellery pieces fall within this category and are not hallmarked in order to keep prices affordable.

Caring for your jewellery

Silver jewellery will naturally tarnish over time, but this can be reduced by:

  • avoiding wearing your jewellery in the shower, sea or swimming pool
  • avoiding leaving your jewellery in damp and hot conditions, for example next to radiators, window sills or in the bathroom
  • applying any perfume, body lotion or hair products before putting on your jewellery to reduce it coming into contact with harmful chemicals.

Your silver jewellery can be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush, rinsed and dried well with a cotton cloth. Gentle polishing with an anti-tarnish polishing cloth will bring it back its shine.
